Cliche Examples: 12 Cliches All Writers Should Avoid.
You should avoid the word saw; characters shouldn't shrug, or smirk, or clench their fists; events shouldn't happen 'suddenly'; you should avoid adverbs; you should avoid the word said; you should avoid the passive voice; you should show, not tell - but not when it comes to using the weather or body language to show how people are feeling, no don't do that.
As a reader, there are some stories I will happily enjoy over and over again. I’m going to write about my favorite romance writing tropes next week! And believe me, some people are going to think those are the worst romance cliches! Here are my votes for romance tropes to avoid, but no need to cringe if that’s what you’re writing.
It's not so much about cliches you need to avoid, its about having unsupported cliches. You can say you've loved physics ever since you were young if you then go on to say something which supports it (I hate psychics so I can't think of any examples of what would prove it haha) and then show how that has progressed to you seeking to study physics at university.
